Viognier, Shiraz and Nebbiolo
The 2013 Reserve Shiraz is a wine made only when conditions produce the best grapes, full of aromatics and flavour.
It is a wine where Shiraz and Viognier are blended in a ratio of 97 percent Shiraz and 3 percent Viognier. The wine has a soft round bouquet of berries followed by rich red berry flavours, black pepper, and a hint of toast. It has a supple mouthfeel with firm tannins and a long clean finish.
Under the brand of the previous owner, Mt Cole Wineworks, the following awards were won:
2014 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards – The 2013 Fenix Rising Reserve Shiraz won a bronze medal
2013 Sydney International Wine Competition – The Fenix Rising Reserve Shiraz 2010 won the Mark de Havilland Memorial Trophy – Best Red Wine of Competition and the Perpetual Trophy for Best Lighter Bodied Dry Red Table Wine
2012 Concours Des Vins de Victoria – The Wineworks Fenix Rising Reserve Shiraz 2010 won the SNF Floerger Trophy for the best red wine of the show together with a gold medal in the Shiraz class.
The wine has been rebranded as Mountainside Wines and continues to be as delicious as always and in the 2015 Ballarat Wine Show the 2013 Reserve Shiraz won a bronze medal.
The 2013 Shiraz has a bouquet of black pepper with berry overtones and is followed by flavours of blackberries, spice and black pepper with hints of clove and nutmeg.
It has firm tannins and a long clean finish. This is a wine deserving of being decanted before drinking to allow the aroma and flavours to fully develop.
The 2014 Shiraz has a bouquet of berry with a hint of pencil shavings.
The bouquet is followed by flavours of blueberry, spice and black pepper with hints of clove and nutmeg. It has soft tannins and a long clean finish. This is also a wine deserving of being decanted before drinking.
The 2015 Shiraz has integrated French oak which has produced a finely structured wine showing a bouquet of berry and a hint of pencil shavings.
This is followed by flavours of blueberry, spice and black pepper with hints of clove and nutmeg. It has soft tannings and a long clean finish. We recommend that the wine be decanted before drinking.

2015 Nebbiolo has integrated French oak which has produced a finely structured wine which is light ruby in colour and displays fresh cherry and raspberry aromas and flavours.
The wine has a long clean finish and we recommend decanting before drinking.
The 2016 Nebbiolo has integrated French oak which has produced a finely structured wine that is light ruby in colour and displays fresh cherry and raspberry aromas and flavours.
The wine has a long clean finish and we recommend decanting before drinking. Bottled in March this year the wine promises to continue developing in the bottle.
The 2016 Viognier grown at Mountainside produces a delightfully fresh wine with a bouquet displaying ripe peach and citrus peel. It is a well-balanced wine with a broad mouthfeel, and peach and ripe stone fruit flavours.
It has a long, clean finish and is a good alternative to unoaked chardonnay.
The 2017 Viognier grown at Mountainside is a delightful fresh wine with fresh summer flavours of dried apricots, gooseberry, spiced fruits, lime and guava.
